COLONIC AFTERCARE

COLONIC IRRIGATION & ENEMA PREPARATION & AFTERCARE

Familiarise yourself with pre-care and aftercare instructions before booking a treatment. It is your responsibility to read the following, as treatment will not be offered to those who book a treatment without checking if any contraindications apply to them.  Return of deposit will not be issued.

Colonic irrigation, and all other treatments at Dublin Vitality Centre aim to boost health and restore balance when undertaken as part of a healthy lifestyle and dietary programme. No result or improvement to any condition is guaranteed. Those with any medical condition, or who are on medications are advised to seek advice from their doctor before booking.

TO PREPARE FOR COLONIC IRRIGATION, OR RELATED TREATMENT YOU SHOULD DO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Fast for no more than 2 hour in advance of your colonic irrigation treatment to ensure balanced blood sugars. Do not fast for longer than this time.
  • Schedule your treatment on a day that you dont need to do very much. Because colonic irrigation exercises an involuntary muscle, you may feel very tired. Involuntary muscles require four times more energy than voluntary muscles.
  • Make sure you get to bed early after your colonic irrigation treatment as your body will need a good rest.
  • Prepare food which will easily move through the colon. The ideal foods to eat after colonic irrigation are vegetable soup, brown rice and vegetables, quinoa, fish and white meats.
  • Avoid large portions, and especially heavy white carbohydrates such as white bread, white pasta and white rice.
  • Your colon absorbs water during the treatment so you will be hydrated. Keep hydration levels optimal by drinking at least 2 litres of water per day. This will keep your bowel moving.
  • You may not need to pass any matter for up to 7 days after your colonic irrigation treatment. This is quite normal. If the bowel does not return to normal function after this time, you may need more treatments.
  • Avoid fizzy drinks and sparkling water as these can cause cramping.
  • Avoid Kombucha and excessive raw or cultured foods directly post treatment which can cause cramping.
  • Anxiety and nervousness can also trigger cramps, sweating and other reactions.

The following reactions are normal, usually brief and harmless, but informing your provider of any previous experiences with fainting or cramping can help ensure your comfort and safety.

  • Cramping can result from muscle tension, or stimulation of nerves or muscles. Cramping can happen post and during treatment in some instances and this  is to be expected.  Take Buscapan as advised by pharmacist.  Magnesium Citrate may help  and is available at our city centre clinic.

  • Fainting may be caused by a temporary drop in blood pressure or heart rate triggered by nervousness or fasting beyond the recommended period of 2 hours in advance.

  • Flu like symptoms Those who experience flu like symptoms during or post treatment are advised to undertake a Covid test as these symptoms are not related to colonic hydrotherapy.

  • For best wellbeing outcome, please consider a course of three treatments.

Pre-Probiotic is recommended after all colonic treatments. You may also consider Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin D, B12, Oregano (parasites) and Omega Fish Oils which are all available at our city centre clinic as part of our wellbeing protocol plan. Berberine and Ashwaganda may be taken if weight management is the goal. These are also available at our city centre clinic or to purchase online at www.viotics.com

A clean liver reacts quickly to the affect of alcohol. Therefore, it is best to avoid alcohol after your treatment.

It is advisable to take a course of probiotics after and during a course of colonics. The recommended probiotic is available at our city centre clinic.

Note: You may also consider the other gut health support supplements that your therapist may recommend based on your consultation and treatment.
